La Nostra Storia
From a grandmother’s kitchen in Naples to your table in Austin

Le Origini
Marco Russo grew up in the narrow streets of Naples, where the scent of wood-fired pizza drifted from every corner. But it was his grandmother Lucia’s kitchen that shaped his destiny — the flour-dusted countertops, the wood-fired oven that never seemed to cool, and hands that moved with decades of intuition.
Nonna Lucia believed that cooking was an act of love, not just sustenance. Every recipe she passed down carried that philosophy — from the precise timing of her San Marzano tomato sauce to the exact temperature of her dough after its long, slow rise.
Il Viaggio
In 2008, Marco and his wife Sofia left Naples for Austin, Texas — drawn by the city’s vibrant food scene and independent spirit. For five years, Marco perfected his craft in Austin’s restaurant kitchens, always dreaming of opening a place that felt like Nonna’s home.
In 2013, Bella Vita Pizza & Trattoria opened its doors on South Lamar, with a custom wood-fired oven imported from Naples and Nonna Lucia’s original recipes. The neighborhood embraced it immediately — not just for the food, but for the warmth that Marco and Sofia built into every corner of the space.
La Nostra Filosofia
Quality Ingredients
We source San Marzano tomatoes from the slopes of Vesuvius, import our flour from a family mill in Caputo, and make our mozzarella fresh every morning.
Respect for Tradition
Every pizza is hand-stretched, never rolled. Our dough ferments for 72 hours. The oven stays at 900°F. Some things you don't change.
Family First
Bella Vita is more than a restaurant — it's an extension of our home. We want every guest to feel the same warmth that filled Nonna Lucia's kitchen.
La Famiglia
Today, Bella Vita is run by Marco and Sofia alongside a team of passionate cooks, servers, and hospitality professionals who share their vision. Many have been with us since the beginning — they’re not just staff, they’re family.
“When you eat at Bella Vita, you’re eating at our home.”— Marco Russo
